Welsh Assembly Government proposal for a Welsh Fisheries zone You might be aware that on Tuesday 22 April 2008, the Minister for Rural Affairs, Elin Jones AM, announced a proposal for a 'Welsh Fisheries Zone' At present the Welsh Assembly Government has competence for fisheries matters within the territorial sea adjacent to Wales (i.e. out to 12 nautical miles from baselines). Our proposal is to create a Welsh Fisheries Zone which would extend fisheries competence out to the median line with the Republic of Ireland to the west, to the Isle of Man in the north, and to a small area in the southwest. This would enable the Welsh Assembly Government to exercise its responsibilities for fisheries management in a more coherent way. How to respond We would prefer to receive responses by email to: FisheriesMailbox@wales.gsi.gov.uk Deadline for responses: Friday 6th June 2008 Below is information regarding this matter. new.wales.gov.uk/consultation/drah/environmentandcountryside/2008/2218337/welshfisherieszoneconlete.doc?lang=enPlease read it and if you do feel strongly enough make your voice heard
